Family Tour of Classic China with Tutor Escorted

This is one of the most popular tours with families with children. It integrates children's education and entertainment with the whole tour, encouraging children to learn about this country's culture, language, geography and history in an easy and fun way. The escort tutor will be a national guide, a teacher and a friend of your family and the children. The tour tutor will give a Mandarin class almost every morning or evening. Kite flying will be arranged for the children probably in Beijing or Yangshuo. There will be two opportunities for easy biking, first on the top of Xi'an City Wall, the other in the picturesque countryside near Yangshuo. There is also an opportunity for the children to visit a local school to have fun with school children there. A cooking class, a panting class may also be arranged in Yangshuo or Guilin.

Day 1: Beijing

Our representative who is also your tour escort will meet you at airport upon your arrival, and you are transferred to your hotel. In your spare time, you can explore the city yourself. In the evening, your tour escort will give you a pre-tour briefing. This is generally followed by a dinner at a local restaurant -- Beijing Duck is often a popular choice.

Day 2: Beijing

We will visit [Temple of Heaven], the place where the ancient emperors used to pray for the God's blessing for the whole nation and we might fly kites there if weather permitting. Then we visit the [Tian'anmen Square], which is considered to be the largest city square in the world. Right after the square, we will visit the [Forbidden City], the largest imperial palace in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties with a history of around 600 years. Later, we will have the chance to enjoy a Chinese martial art show named [Kungfu Legend] in the evening. That will be very exciting not only to the kids, but also to all of us.

Day 3: Beijing

Today let's visit the authentic section of the famous wall, [Jinshanling Great Wall]. Jinshanling is connected to the Simatai Great Wall in the east and the Panlongshan Great Wall in the west. Jinshanling has probably the highest frequency of towers per kilometer of any place along the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. It also has one of the greatest varieties of architectural and defensive styles of both wall and towers. The cable car is the easiest way to reach the Great Wall. It brings you up to the top of a hill where you follow a short foot path to reach the Wall near the Lesser Jinshan tower. It is a largely unrestored as such, not crowded with hordes of other tourists. Climbing up this incredible man-made structure and surveying the spectacular surrounding countryside is an unforgettable experience.

Day 4: Beijing

Kids will love this day! We will go to the [Beijing Zoo] in the morning to see China's National Treasure-the cute Pandas! Beijing Zoo, situated to the west of Beijing Exhibition Center, was known for a short time after the founding of the People's Republic as the Western Suburbs Park (Xijiao Gongyuan). The grounds combine cultivated flower gardens with stretches of natural scenery, including dense groves of trees, stretches of grassland, a small stream, lotus pools and small hills dotted with pavilions and halls. And after lunch, the [Summer Palace] is waiting for you. It is a renowned imperial summer resort from the Ming and Qing Dynasty and is a great example of China's extraordinary workmanship and architecture. Being the largest and most well-preserved royal park in China, it greatly influences Chinese horticulture and landscape with its famous natural views and cultural interests, which also has long since been recognized as “The Museum of Royal Gardens”.

Day 5: Beijing-Xi'an

Let’s have a leisurely morning to experience authentic Old Beijing. We will drive to the area with old atmosphere of Beijing and have a [Hutong Tour by rickshaw]. The rickshaw, the most popular form of transportation in recent years for tourists to take the Hutong tour, provides a unique view of Beijing and becomes more and more popular with tourists. A rickshaw is more expensive than taking a taxi but it allows tourists to enjoy the street scene and is more convenient for avoid traffic jams. So by taking a rickshaw and traveling at a leisurely pace, one can gain a more intimate flavor of life in old Beijing. At noon, we have lunch in a local home. Later we go to airport for a flight to Xi’an.

Day 6: Xi'an

The tour of [Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum] is a hot route. Today we will go to visit this renowned museum which will show us these unearthed pottery figurines, and it is considered as one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th Century and "the Eighth Wonder of the World". The museum covers an area of 16,300 square meters( about a acres). It is divided into three sections: No. 1 Pit, No. 2 Pit, and No. 3 Pit respectively. They were tagged in the order of their discoveries. Altogether over 7,000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots, and even weapons have been unearthed from these pits. Most of them have been restored to their former grandeur. After returning to Xi'an, some free time is for you to explore the city.

Day 7: Xi'an

You can take a relaxing morning to wander the Muslim Quarter and visit the [Great Mosque]. Later we will have [a cooking class]. During the cooking class we first learn how to cook the traditional Xi'an noodles, then, of course, we eat our noodles for lunch. In the afternoon, we will have [a bike tour] on the top of the [Xi'an City Wall], which will present us a bird eye view of the downtown area.

Day 8: Xi'an-Guilin

Today we will know how can Xi'an became the cradle of Chinese culture through the colorfully illustration in [Shaanxi Provincial Museum]. Following this we will head for the [Big Wild Goose Pagoda]. Originally built by the eminent monk Xuanzang in 652 AD, it’s considered as one of the most important pagodas in China's Buddhism history. Finally, we will take a pm flight to Guilin.

Day 9: Guilin

We take our bus to Longji (Dragon Back), a minority area with magnificent [Terraced Rice Paddy Fields]. The views of the fields are stunning from all perspectives as you walk your way towards the top of a mountain. Along the way, you will encounter some of China’s ethnic minority peoples dressed in traditional, exotic, colorful clothes, and adorned with delicate silver ornaments intertwined with their traditional long hair. We will visit their traditional [Zhuang Village] in the afternoon, leave the village and take our bus going downhill and drive to Guilin City.

Day 10: Guilin-Yangshuo

To Yangshuo, we are arranged to take the [Li River Cruise] and enjoy the Li River picturesque scenery at the same time. During the cruise, you will find out the highlight of your visit to China. We can pass the extraordinary peaks, enjoy sprays of bamboo lining, and appreciate local fishing rafts floating on the river and picturesque villages. After disembarkation, we will walk to the hotel. In the evening, we will observe the ancient tradition of [cormorant fishing] from a short night cruise.

Day 11: Yangshuo

Today we have our second [Bike Tour] to the countryside around Yangshuo and [fly kites] in the field area if weather permitting. In the afternoon, let's have an entire [cooking class] to learn how to make southern China meals, which are quite different from the northern one.

Day 12: Yangshuo-Shanghai

We're going to have a [Traditional Chinese Painting class] followed by a [visit to a local primary school] this morning. Later in the afternoon, we will be transferred to Guilin airport for our flight to Shanghai.

Day 13: Shanghai

There are some hot spots in Shanghai that you should pay attention to today, we will visit them and enjoy wandering there, such as the [Outer Bund], from where you see the modern skylines of this China's biggest city; and the [Yuyuan Garden], a beautiful private garden which is the most typical representative of its sort of Chinese garden. Later, we will go to the [Lower Sphere of the Oriental Pearl Tower] to experience modern Shanghai. In the evening, you can enjoy an incredible [Chinese acrobatic show] after your dinner. The kids will definite like that very much.
