Nanchang August 1st Uprising Museum is located in the middle of No. 380 Zhongshan Road. It was built on the site of the Nanchang Uprising Headquarter, a gray five-floor building blending both Western and Chinese architectural styles.
In late July, 1927, New Fourth Army came to Nanchang and rented this building. The residences of Mr. Zhou Enlai and Zhu De during the Nanchang Uprising are also located here. Later, the Headquarter for uprising was set up in this building, where Leaders of New Fourth Army had meetings. On August 1st, 1927, the uprising broke out, one of historic events in Chinese history. This building used to be a local hotel, but as they used it as the headquarters of the revolutionary army at the time of uprising , it has been kept as a memorial hall to the revolution with a lot of objects of historical and cultural importance on display.
The gold-decorated horizontal tablet of Nanchang August First Uprising Museum written by General Chen Yi in 1957 is hung in the front of the door of the old site. A 45.5-meter-tall monument was erected on the August 1st Square to commemorate the Nanchang Uprising. On the monument there are inscriptions and reliefs. The second and third floor was set aside for exhibition. There are four exhibiting rooms and an inscription memorial house in total, showing vividly the glorious history of Nanchang Uprising with the history books, photos, charts, cultural relics and inscriptions of comrades who were engaged in Nanchang Uprising.
Several rooms with significance have been restored to its former appearance at the time of meeting: Joy Hall for meeting, Room No.25 in which Zhou Enlai worked , office and bedroom of Lin Boqu, Room No.9-the office of Military Consultant Committee, Room No.10-the room that some leaders of Uprising lived in and so on. Besides, some of Zhou Enlai’s photos are exhibited in the hall of the third floor.
In 1961, the Hall was granted as a key historic site under national protection. It is one of popular Patriotism Education Bases in China.
