Meiling Scenic Area is located in Wanli Distirct.Meling was originally called Feihong Hill. As early as in Han Dynasty, post roads were paved. By the end of Western Han Dynasty, then governor of Nanchang County, Wei Fu secluded himself into Feihong Mountain.
The Meiling Mountain is located in the west suburb of Nanchang, by the bank of Poyang Lake, covering an area of 150 square kilometers. In order to commemorate his virtuous action, Meixian Temple was built in the mountain. Hence, the mountain was renamed as Meiling.
Meiling is characterized by gorgeous mountains and stones, pure waterfalls and fountains, marvelous ancient trees and mists. It unique natural scenery and weather has attracted many visitors.
Since Tang Dynasty, numerous high officials, poets and refined scholars paid a visit to the temple and wrote a great number of poems and passages on it.
Meiling serves as shrine both for Buddhism and Taoism. It is estimated there are more than 136 temples an altars. The location is considered as the 12th cave heaven in Tao Book. The most famous is the Cuiyan Temple. Originally there was a copper statue of Sakyamuni with the height of 5 meters in this temple. There are still the Xiangcheng Temple, the Yuntang Temple, the Dragon Temple, the Yunxi Temple, the Peace Guan, the Xuzhen Guan, the Ziyang Palace and so forth.
There are more then 100 peaks in Meiling. Each peak has its own characteristics. The highest peak, Xiyaowu is 840 meters above the sea level, highest point in Nanchang City. The average temperature is 22.6℃, 8-10℃ than downtown Nanchang. It is ideal summer resort. Melingtou Peak has lush bamboo trees. Lion Peak is steep; Ziyang Hill and Louhangling are beautiful to look at. In Meiling, you can find some precious and rare ancient trees .Potted camphor, Orchid in stone and bamboo in tree are there wonders in Meiling.
It is estimated there are more than 120 natural and cultural scenic spots in Meiling. The major scenic spots include: Xiyao Lake Sumer resort, Tianning Nunnery, Hongyadan Well, Huanggu Tomb, ancient Gingko and steep Lion Peak etc.
