This seashore statue park was completed in 2002 with a theme of psalms and sayings by world leaders and heads of state. In 1998, they each wrote a poem in their mother tongue praying for world peace. These people included the past Chinese President Jiang Zemin and American President Clinton.
The bronze statues of 96 heads of state and their poems are carved as the major feature. There are also artwork and fine stamps with the theme of peace presented by lots of countries. The call, conveyed through the United Nations, drew a warm response from over 120 state leaders. To commemorate this event, the world poets conference decided to build a world peace park. Lushunkou was finally chosen as the venue for the park.
Covering an area of 130,000 square meters (32 acres), the parks is designed by French architect Devillers.It cost 230-million-yuan (US$27.71 million). The construction began in the spring of 2000，and was completed in 2002.It is in the shape of half the earth, on which the main building in the shape of a peace dove .
The theme of peace forms a striking contrast with the history of Lushun, which lasted for almost half a century. With its beautiful natural views, pronounced culture of history and lofty peace belief, the World Peace Park will not only be a new scenic spot in Dalian but also the symbol of maintaining peace.
