On the gourd-like peninsula, there is a kingdom lying among the plants paradise. This kingdom with a vast area of 100,000 hectares is home to 5,000 rarely seen plants of various kinds, among which the giant arbors and tropical ferns are the members as well.
Hailed as the Miniature of the Plant Kingdom, the Tropical Botanical Garden, a research center belonging to the Chinese Academy of Science, is the biggest tropical botanical garden in China. The garden, established in 1959 under the celebrated botanist Cai Xitao, is a must-go place for the visitor to Xishuangbanna.
Enjoying a reputation as "Green Gem on the Crown of the Plant Kingdom", the Garden is the cradle land of conservation activities in Xishuangbanna, which consists of 13 distinctive zones. Visitors can have a close touch with multitudinous uncommonly seen and endangered plant species here. The Maytenus horkeri, whose leaves can be used to treat cancer, the "clock flower", which opens when the sun rises and close when the sun sets, the "dancing grass", which responds to sound, the "king lotus", which are so strong that can hold a child on the water, the "mystery fruit", which is able to turn sour to sweet, and the "King of Tea Trees", which is at least 800 years old according to authorities should be a feast of your eyes.
Around the tropical garden, the precious plants and rarely seen animals are living a harmonious life, which provides a pleasant view of nature for us.
