Lantern Festival lights a lamp of hope

 The 15th day of the 1st lunar month is the Chinese Lantern Festival. The 15th day is the first night to see a full moon in one year, so the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival in China. To celebrate the happy festival, people like to light lanterns or lamps which symbolize people’s hope in a new year.


Lighting lamp started in Han Dynasty, has a history of more than two thousand years. In Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu of Han first advocated lighting lamps overnight. The royal palace was so bright in the sea of lamps.

Time went by, lanterns varies in people’s life. In the North, people prefer red lanterns. Snowflakes dancing and wind whistling, the lanterns bring people warmth and happiness. In the South, people like to see lanterns with fine appearance and colorful lights when go out for fun.

The lantern stands for warmth and nice hope. Light a lantern in your heart at the beginning of the year and it will lighten day and night in your life.

The lantern festival is something you should not miss during your China Tours if you travel to China during the winter holiday.
