Badashanren is a distinguished painter in early Qing Dynasty, Her with other seven painter in were nicknamed as Eight of Eccentrics of Yangzhou .Badashanren is alias of Zhu Da,the descendant of Zhu Quan, the son of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang in Ming Dynasty. Badashanren spend most his late life at Qingyunpu in order to avoid the political prosecution against Qing Dynasty.
Badashanren is talented in arts, especially freehand brushwork painting featuring flower and birds. His painting and calligraphy is characterized by meticulous composition, broad artistic conception, round and mellow calligraphy. His paintings have enjoyed extremely high reputation for over 300 years. He is also refined poet as well. His unique style had a great influence on famous Chinese painter in modern times such as Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian, Pan Tianshou, Li Kuchan etc.
Badashanren Memorial is a museum for commemoration purpose. It has a collection of more than 80 pieces of works and documents. The original hall has been used as an exhibition hall, where paintings of Badashanren and some modern artists are displayed. His masterpieces includes: Ink Lotus, Pine and Crane House, Eagle Standing in Trees and Deer of Longevity. Some masterpieces of Niu Shihui, brother of Badashanren such as Cat and Chicken is also exhibited here. It will be poetic to walk among halls in the tranquil garden and appreciate famous artworks of masters.
In 1985, Badashanren was regarded as top ten cultural celebrities by the UNESCO.
