The bridge was commissioned on 8 August 1934 and opened to traffic on 26 September, 1937. It was designed by Mao Yisheng, a great Chinese engineer. And it was the first such bridge, the double – decked bridge ever built by the Chinese. Pagoda of Six harmonies commands a broad view of the Qiantang River Bridge just like a rainbow above the river creates magnificent scenery.

Hangzhou Qiantang River Bridge, as the vital communication link, spans the Qiantang River from south to north to connect the major railways between Shanghai, Hangzhou and Lingbo, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. The bridge was commissioned on 8 August 1934 and opened to traffic on 26 September, 1937. It was designed by Mao Yisheng, a great Chinese engineer.

As a young engineer and pioneering bridge builder in China, Mao Yisheng had to do the unthinkable. To stop the approach of troops from Japan in 1937, Mao destroyed the Qiantang River Bridge near Hangzhou. It was a bridge that he had helped to build. when World War II was over, Mao supervised the reconstruction of the Qiantang Bridge.
