This trip to Beijing has been immensely rewarding, and one of the most unforgettable experiences was hiking the Great Wall. We chose to take the cable car directly up to the Great Wall. As the cable car gradually ascended, the majestic scenery of the Beijing suburbs unfolded beneath our feet. When the outline of the Great Wall slowly came into view, I was awestruck by the grandeur of this structure—it resembles a giant dragon winding along the Yan Mountains, testifying to the wisdom and perseverance of the Chinese nation.
Standing atop the Great Wall and gazing into the distance, the view is truly breathtaking. Lush forests cover the rolling mountains, with thin mist lingering like delicate veils. Above the watchtowers, white clouds transform endlessly: at times like playful children waving at us, at times like wild geese flying south in formation, and at other times like mighty tigers displaying their power. This dreamlike scenery makes the Great Wall resemble a fairyland on earth.
When we climbed to the “Hero’s Slope,” I touched the weather-worn bricks and couldn’t help but be lost in thought. In ancient times, without modern machinery, workers transported huge bricks and stones up these perilous ridges using only their hands. Their hardship and ingenuity command deep respect. This magnificent structure, with a history spanning over two thousand years, is not only a cultural symbol of China but also a precious heritage of all humanity.
Beyond the Great Wall, Beijing has many more treasures to explore: the imperial grandeur of the Forbidden City, the artistic landscaping of the Summer Palace, and the humanistic charm of its hutongs—each tells a unique story of this ancient capital.
