Situated in Jiangxi Province, Lake Poyang is China's largest fresh-water lake, and as a natural reservoir, regulating the water level of the Yangtze River. It stretches 170 kilometers from north to south, and spans 74 kilometers, with an area of 3,960 square kilometers.
There are many tourist attractions on the picturesque lake, which is especially attractive for the natural reserve of migrants of 150 species. One can enjoy the natural beauty of the migrant reserve as well as local flavors by the lake. Lake Boyang area is renowned for being a "land of rice and fish", and endowed with a vast beautiful lake and exquisite mountains, it's a famous scenic spot too. Luoxing Boulder (Fallen-Star Boulder) is a huge boulder in the shape of a star stands in the lake, and nerve submerges despite highest tides. Hence it were taken as a star fallen from the Heaven according to legend.
Located close to the Wucheng township in Yongxiu County of Jiangxi Province, Lake Poyang Migratory-birds Reserve is a swamp of the lake formed by a dozen of marshes, ponds, bends, streams, branching lakes etc., covering an area of about 90 square kilometers. The zone with rich growths of grass and abundant water and aquatic products, is the largest winter habitat for migratory-birds in the world. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of the birds are often found to dwell here to tide over the winter. Among them are some 1500 white-cranes, 1800 young swans, 300 white storks, 500 whitehead cranes, 150 pairs of mandarin ducks.
Waterfowls Park is the largest waterfowls park in China, lying within the Migratory-birds Preservation Zone. Hotels, berths for yachts and a tower were constructed. On top of the tower, one can enjoy with a high-power telescope, the free movements of many precious birds.
