The Beijing Olympic park was built for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It is located in the north of Beijing and covers an area of 11.59 square kilometers. During the 2008 Olympic Games, there will be 10 Olympic venues including bird’s nest, water cube, national stadium, national convention center, eagle east swimming pool, Olympic archery field, Olympic tennis center and Olympic hockey field. In addition, there is the biggest forest park in the north of Beijing Olympic park, which brings people a lot of convenience. The Beijing Olympic park is a comprehensive public activity center that integrates sports and cultural activities, exhibitions and concerts. Many people come here on good days for a walk or to fly kites with their children.
The Beijing national stadium is the main stadium for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Because of its general outline, it is known to the public as the bird’s nest. Covering 21 hectares, the project provides about 91,000 (80,000) seats for spectators. In 2008, the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and paralympic games, the athletics events and the football final were held here. The exterior structure of the bird’s nest is mainly composed of large steel portal frames. They support each other, forming a grid outline that looks like a nest of branches. In Chinese culture, the bird’s nest symbolizes the cradle of life and carries the hope for the future of mankind. Without any unnecessary treatment of the site, the structure of the building is directly exposed to the visitors, forming a huge visual impact. In 2022, the opening and closing ceremonies of the winter Olympics will also be held here.
